The performance of press felt that we usually refer to mainly includes three aspects:
(1) Durable Performance
It refers to the durable state of the press felt, that is, the service life cycle of the press felt, which is a comprehensive reflection of all the properties of paper making felts. We hope that the service life of paper making felts will be as long as possible.
(2) Water Filtration Performance
Also known as the permeability of the press felt, it actually includes two aspects of the felt's water filtration and breathability, which are the most basic of the three basic properties of paper making felts. The permeability represents the ease with which water or air can pass through a felt under a certain pressure or vacuum. In order to meet the pressing requirements, the press felt must have good permeability, otherwise the high fluid pressure generated in the press zone will cause wet paper sheets to be "embossed".
Transparency is related to the organizational structure, weaving method, and the type and properties of materials (especially fibers) selected for the press felt. In addition, the felt must be kept clean during use, and fillers, adhesives, fine fibers, and other external impurities should be avoided from filling the pores of the bfelts as much as possible. Otherwise, the blockage of the felts pores will reduce its permeability. In order to fully utilize the function of the felts, it must be continuously cleaned or regularly cleaned while the paper machine is running, to maintain its smooth organization, water permeability, and sufficient pore volume, in order to fully utilize the auxiliary dewatering effect of the press felt.
(3) Surface Performance
It refers to the thickness and smoothness of the surface of the press felt, which affects the surface smoothness and delicacy of the wet paper sheet through the action of the pressure zone. During pressing, the felt comes into direct contact with the wet paper web. Under pressure, the roughness or delicacy of the surface of the paper web in contact with the felt is related to the felt. A rough felt surface will form a rough paper surface.
These three properties are the basic properties of paper making felts, and they are complementary to each other. When choosing or designing paper making felts, we must consider them comprehensively and not blindly pursue one aspect of performance while neglecting or reducing the other two aspects. The performance of felts in these three aspects can basically meet the general requirements of paper machines.
